You’re Kidding, Right?

In the news item posted January 18th, we noted this about Bernanke’s address to congress, “Calling for fiscal responsibility and a revamping of Social Security and Medicare. Bernanke said that without changes, the economy could be in danger. “If early and meaningful action is not taken, the U.S. economy could be seriously weakened,” Bernanke said in his prepared comments.

Come on. Did the members of congress sit there and say to themselves, “Wow! I never realized that before?” Was there a ripple of noise as several hundred hands slapped foreheads and several hundred voices cried, “Doh!!” Bernanke wins the award in our book for best performance by an actor stating the obvious.

If the august members of our governing body don’t already know as nearly every sixth grader does that changes in entitlement programs are required before their obligations exceed their revenue then we are in more trouble than we assumed. Who was it that said, “Voters get what they deserve?”
