In 1992 Paul joined a small RIA firm that practiced active investment management strategies for its clients. After 10 years, he left to start an investment research company which tracked and verified performance records of more than 2000 investment strategies for nearly 600 RIA’s across the USA. He helped his son, Cliff, start Scotia Partners in 2006 and together they sold the research company in 2012.

In 2016, finding himself a sole practitioner, Paul built Scotia Partners into a firm that licensed proprietary investment strategy research to other RIA’s. At the same time, he began to build software tools and methods to provide sub-advisory services to a few select firms. He has written software for several firms to assist with their back-office chores and has consulted with many firms on investment strategy development, testing, and implementation.

Today, Paul serves as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Scotia Partners and supports his son, Cliff, who has rejoined Scotia to build wealth management services into the practice.

Over his career, Paul has served on several non-profit boards, as a trustee for a university, as an elder in his church, and as an independent trustee for a mutual fund and ETF governing trust. When he is not in the office, he spends much of his time caring for the family farm property and calls himself a hobby-farmer. His grandchildren call him “Pappy.”
